Buy higher capacity rechargeable batteries perhaps? My Canon A95 runs on 4 AA batteries, and the ones I use have a 2300 mAh charge. Lasts me about 300+ shots, with the display on.
One of the reasons I chose a Canon (have an S2 IS) was that it takes AA batteries - rechargeable or otherwise. So usually carry a spare set of disposable batteries on me just in case the charge runs out. One my 2300 batteries - (it takes four of them) - I can take about 450 shots without using the display too often.
