Thank you to Udhay Shankar for the invitation to this list. I love mailing lists - not just for their retro feel (especially in my particular MUA) but because I'd rather converse with a group of like minds than stand on a pedestal with a blog, though that has its charms too.

I'm going to be in India for the next two weeks, and am keen to meet people doing interesting things with open source software, etc. My itinerary is roughly:

Feb 4-5: Chennai (fossconf.in, CollabNet's offices)
Feb 5-6: Pondicherry (fun)
Feb 7-9: Pune (GNUnify)
Feb 10-12: B'luru (OSIweek)
Feb 13: Mumbai (OSIweek)
Feb 14-15: Delhi (OSIweek)
Feb 16-17: Dharmsala (fun)

I'm brand new to this list so I've got no idea to the geographic distribution of people on this list, but I'm assuming many of you are in India itself and not just fanboys/interlopers like me. I don't know what my precise hourly schedule will be yet for some of those days, but I'm eager to meet new people so I'll try to make something work. SMS might be best for last-minute planning; mine is +1-415-412-4610. I would also encourage people to sign up for Dopplr - www.dopplr.com - and befriend me. I travel way too much and would much rather spend spare time in a foreign city with interesting people than staring at art or hiding in a hotel room.

Finally, for my first contribution: one of my favorite blogs is Andrew Leonard's "How The World Works" blog over at salon.com. It's moderate-bandwidth - 2 or less per day - but they're always fascinating slices of globalization, technology, the future of IP, and Asian culture. One of my favorite recent posts is:

Cheers,
