When my brother and I had a music class, one of us would hide in the bathroom and the other on the terrace. I am amazed that we learnt anything...but the good thing was, when, at about age 16, I developed an interest in Carnatic music (as opposed to being subjected to it), I was already at a level where I could carry on with the learning. That's what helped me, I think. Oh, yes, at every stage, I was impertinent to ask questions. NO answers to be provided, except, "that's what the elders say." NO meanings to the lyrics, anyway, who would want to sing, "my life is wasting away like the water seeping out of the lake" (kereya neeranu) at age 13? Deepa. > >
