Slid into it by acquiring a taste for tabla first, then northern indian music, then a friend who's had some carnatic music training said "oh if you like that you should listen to this" and made me a mix-cd of carnatic music, and explained it. I forced myself to listen to it until I felt like I was starting to "get" what was going on. I'm still not a huge fan, it's a difficult musical form for me, but already having an appreciation for chinese classical and japanese noh has helped. :) -- Charles
