Bravo, Perry. Quick exercise for those who consider Kashmir an integral part of India: 1] frame an argument to that effect, and 2] substitute the word 'India' with 'the British empire' and the word 'Kashmir' with 'India'. And voila, you'll find your argument very similar to some Churchill quote or the other. It should be the people of Kashmir who should decide Kashmir's fate and no one else. For outsiders to claim that right is imperialistic. This holds even more so for the North East, in my view, where we treat the people as badly as the Brits treated us, if not worse. Three days after the 61st anniversary of India's independence, let's not lose sight of the principles involved there. -- Amit Varma http://www.indiauncut.com
