There are a few problems here. Some of these checks got put in place
because of specific incidents (scanning cellphones separately for example -
after spanish security checkers - long before 9/11 - caught local gangsters
carrying 4 shot low power .22 pistols disguised as old brick type
cellphones, pressing specific buttons on the keypad would fire each barrel
inside)
So, perceptions of security theater tend to vary. And most of what is being
fingered here are implementation issues.
