How did you arrive at these numbers - source or educated guess? It's still
shocking how few women are aware of their rights under the Act and how
reticent they are to use it. A Dowry Act complaint against your husband
should logically be followed by divorce soon after or worse, a charge of
cruelty. I dont see too many in-laws and husbands seeing the light on a
permanent basis.

The only way you solve a false complaint of this sort is to get the woman in
question to withdraw her complaint. Essentially you give in. But the Dowry
Act still requires that the woman establish a demand for dowry. The Cruelty
provisions are far worse. A mere complaint of mental cruelty ensures arrest
of all accused. And there's no anticipatory bail. First you get arrested
then you try and get bail which is generally rejected initially. It's a far
more abused provision.
