In Calcutta, I went through the 11 plus 3 system; one had to choose one's "stream" (Science, Commerce or Arts..they are mutually exclusive, you see!)...and one went straight to one's undergrad studies. There was also a system in the bachelor's degree, that one could opt for an Honours degree. If one did "well" enough in that ( =got enough marks), and presented a dissertation to the satisfaction of the academics (and a nasty collection of dried-up old crones they were), your Honours degree was upgraded in two years' time to a Master's Degree. > If the latter (10+2) is > scrapped the biggest losers are the private coaching institutes and > the teachers who diligently provide "private coaching" for 10th > standard alongside their regular teaching jobs. Oh...this is now a HUGE industry. And very little regulated. Deepa. > > > -- > . > >
