So, Deepa, did the great coffee lady tell you where you can get that perfect blend in Bangalore? That mixture sounds perfect.

SRS: Allow me to bust your chicory bubble a bit. The acid indigestion IMHO is a function of the coffee. I come from a family of chicory snobs and I think it adds to the coffee. You should do like the Italians and eat our version of biscotti with your coffee-- the simple Marie biscuit will do.

I would like to know from Silk List where good coffee blends for home brewing can be bought in Bangalore. I buy Kothas coffee (with 30% chicory) from my local Benson Town Family Supermarket. And you know what? It ain't bad at all.

List of coffee places please?

Best wishes,
Shoba

In infinite wisdom Ramakrishnan Sundaram said the following On 7/29/09
10:12 AM:

Funnily enough, the FBI (in the TV series) works improbably closely
with Dr Brennan. Very intimately, one might say.

No way!

I guess they added that angle to increase the tension in the show. I
watch the series sometimes with my wife (who is addicted to it) and I
think Brennan's and Booth's (the FBI guy) intimacy is much less than
that between Scully & Maulder (X-Files)

Bombay is about the only place I see it sold / drunk (never been to mysore..)

My usual drink in Madras is Leo Top Blend (quite good, nice even roast with a chocolatey aftertaste) - but the mysore concerns stuff beats it hands down. Lovely dark roast too, and pure coffee. None of that chicory rubbish at all.

Anywhere I can get the stuff in madras? A quick tour of shops in adyar turns up zilch. Google is uncommunicative on this subject. So let's see if silklist does
better :)

Where did you get this Mysore Concerns coffee, SRS? Did you get the powder or drink the coffee? If this was in Blr, let us...or at least me...know.

There is a perception amongst Tamilians (well, TamBrams) that "pure"
coffee means only Peaberry, no Arabica or (as it is known in Coffee Board circles,"Plantation A " and "Plantation B"....or Robusta....I once had a long conversation with Sunalini Menon, who used to be a coffee- taster for the Coffee Board, and she said that in actuality, in blind tests, most south Indians preferred a mix of Peaberry, Robusta, and Arabica..with at least a 10% blend of chicory! She said that contrary, also, to the perception that chicory is Not A Good Thing, adding 10% chicory to the blend did improve the strength of the decoction, and boosted the flavour of the coffee without
taking away from the taste.

So how did this predeliction for "Peaberry" (or is it "P-berry"?) coffee
come to be?

A friend of mine also got enough Kopi Luwak seeds from his plantation-owning pal, to have his mother roast and grind them, and serve them to his friends, and he said the taste was smooth and excellent....but whether it was worth
the kind of expense it would normally involve, is another matter!

Cheers, Deepa.

I hate it. It makes the coffee taste horrible and gives me acid
indigestion. Especially with the cheaper coffee they usually use to mix
with chicory.

Bombay. Mysore Concerns is one of those years old institutions in Matunga,
along with other haunts of palakkad and tirunelveli iyers in that area

They're to bombay what india coffee house is (or rather was, once) to
bangalore. And you can drink your coffee there if you like (but I find that it makes great black coffee too - so I just buy the powder whenever I'm in
bombay, which is not too often).

I just wish it was available elsewhere.
