I was going to say something about how it seemed these self-sustaining
cycles in the pop culture industry seemed overwhelmingly dictated by the
tastes of teenage boys, but remembered that hammy Joaquin Phoenix in
eyeliner has broader appeal than that.

On all levels, agreed. But fiction and theory are distinctly different
things, even in economics, and judging one by the standards of the other is
a mistake. Perhaps Rand is exceptional in this case, but since I don't like
her writing I can't judge fairly. [I don't know any libertarians who enjoy
her work, either.]
