it's a sad story, and one that I don't know all the details of. But basically, Phil has progressively withdrawn, no doubt there is a medical condition involved. UCLA and the IS department have done everything they can to help him, but there's only so much they can do without phil or his family's consent (only his sister has taken an interest, she filed the missing persons report). Given Phil's committment to privacy, he was also very effective at keeping his private life private and his friends and work separate, so there are few people who were/are really close to him. "mobilizing online communities to track him down" is probably a bad idea, since it's clear he doesn't want to be found and might be suspicious of people trying to find him. If people want to help http://sites.google.com/site/philipagre/ is a site that is attempting to send a message to him that people care about him and want to help. that's what I know. ck
