Is Flickr's use of "interestingness" a useful thing in this case -
http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/? If the goal is to just let the
participants in a discussion know what others thought of a comment/idea, then
+1 type systems make more sense. But if the goal is to highlight
discussions/ideas(or pictures) emerging out of a group for a wider audience -
then Flickr's secret sauce (albeit top-down) might be more useful.

So the important question might be - what do you want to do with the "like/+1"
type data. And then decide on the appropriate system to codify that and
summarise the results.

Does diaspora have such a system or the glimmerings of one? Speaking of which -
does anyone still have invites to give out? [email protected] - thanks in
advance!
