Anna Hazare's fast is a game of "Chicken" with the Indian Government. A
description of that game is on this Wiki page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicken_%28game%29

If the government allows Hazare to die from his fast it will be taken to mean
that the government ould rather see citizens die than implement powerful laws
against corruption. But if the government wants to make him break his fast
they have to bend and acept his proposals for a less toothless legislation.

The government tried to make Hazare blink by using strong arm tactics - to
avoid getting into this situation - but that has not worked so far, so the
game is on course.

However this is Indians versus Indians, and not Indians versus British rule.
So I suspect there is going to be a very Indian ending - which basically means
the playing out of the game of "What's your best price?"

"What's your best price" is a game we play every day. The street vendor quotes
a price of 60 Rupees for a couple of rags to wipe your car. I demand that he
sell them to me at 20 Rupees. He says 40. I say 25. We settle for 30.

Anna Hazare and his team will settle for leaving the judiciary and MPs out of
the ambit of the Lokpal bill provided the corrupt logcal and state governmnt
apparatus - RTO, excise, city corporations and the like are cleaned up.
Corruption in the latter bodies affect 99% of Indians.

As an aside, a frined of mine has just returned from a conference in
Switzerland. While on a local tour of Zurich the Indian tour guide showed them
beautiful mansions owned by Deve Gowda, the late Sukh Ram and the late Pramod
Mahajan.
