According to legend, Martha's Vineyard was named in honor of the
infant daughter of the English explorer Gosnold, the first European
to circumnavigate it. Martha was living in England at the time. That
was in the late 1500's, so I would be surprised if she is now living
anywhere that you or I could place on a map.
