here i am in san francisco, just back from new york, where i had a brooklyn style dosa. (not really)…
but i must ask: On May 26, 2013, at 6:11 AM, Srini RamaKrishnan <[email protected]> wrote: > On Sun, May 26, 2013 at 2:32 PM, Charles Haynes > <[email protected]> wrote: >> Saravana Bhavan > > > In the spirit of Silk, I register here my personal opinion that > Saravana Bhavan is the combined nutritional and ethical equivalent of > McDonalds & Monsanto. > why is that your opinion? (i have only been to the sunnyvale branch, rarely). (perhaps do they now serve Bhopal-style McDosas?) i hate to hijack this thread, which has gotten me salivating, but in new york, i was staying with a friend whose financial success has caused him to decide he is interested in high end watches. (i have never owned a watch that cost more than $200, and that seemed like a lot to me). our conversation about this turned into a much longer discussion about women who recognize their cohort by the shoes and handbags they carry, and men who use watches for the same purpose. and then what "brand" is about -- why people are willing to pay 10x or more for something that does not cost 10x or more to make.
