Here are my current favorites:

1. BBC Witness: Short (<10 minutes) daily episodes looking back at
something that happened on that day in history.

2. 99℅ invisible: short, beautifully produced episodes about the role of
design in everyday life (part of radiotopia podcast network - one of the 3
networks out there that is trying a different business model to make a
living off podcasts. The other two are Slate's Panoply (biz model: we'll
help anyone do their podcast with our experience for a price) and Gimlet
media (biz model: a small stable of excellently produced podcasts
advertiser driven))

3. On The Media (A little US centric, but great criticism of the media)

4. FT's podcasts. Much better than The Economist, IMO.

5. BBC's From or own Correspondent

6. Samanth and his wife's The Intersection

7. In our time: learn about all kinds of things from the experts on the
topic
