I agree it's possible to learn without objective, but in a world of
research funding where learning costs money it is rarely so.

The act of drinking coffee is deception, we fool the nervous system into
being alert.

The act of setting an alarm is aggression, we jolt the body into
wakefulness.

Aggression and deceit are unfortunately the warp and woof of most human
behaviour, occurring even where we least expect it.

So what motivates the desire to learn? There's the question.
