Okay, processing with salt for "a few minutes" after the cloud forms should yield "a few" ppm. So that means you ought to have been in the ballpark. Damn! Okay, try again without the salt! <grin> > Therefore if I don't use salt, I would process for about 5 minutes > after the golden cloud appears to obtain 5 ppm, yes? No, the 1 ppm per minute approximation *only* applies to some of the recipes using salt. You might need more like 20-30 minutes after the cloud appears to get "a few" ppm or so. The only way to be sure is to get it tested at a lab. The meters from Hanna Instruments will give you a precise reading of "ppm" based on conductivity, but we don't know exactly how *that* relates to the actual ppm of colloidal silver. So, at best it'll give you a rough idea of what you've got *and* help you get the same results from one batch to the next, for which it is ideal. > And the cloud should appear about 25 minutes into the process? Yes, at least. How long it takes to start will depend on the purity of the distilled water, the spacing and length of the electrodes, the voltage, volume of the jar, temperature, and probably the phase of the moon, at least a little bit. <grin> Again, if you start your second batch with 1/4 of the first batch, the process starts up a lot sooner. > Can I see the cloud with the naked eye or do I need a flashlight? If the light is right, yes. It's easier to light it from the side with a flashlight. A laser pointer is a cool way to do it, too. > Sorry, for all the questions. As for my expertise, there are plenty of folks here with more than I have. Collectively, we've learned an awful lot about CS, but also very little, if you know what I mean. Once you experiment with it a bit, you'll get a feel for what's going on. Be well, Mike D.
