Bob, I thought Joyce reported she was cleaning the heating element _inside_ the boiler of her Sears distiller, but anyway, some home distillers are constructed this way. I presume that professional chemistry labs 'triple distill' their water because some measurable trace amount of minerals(?) actually do pass through the first two distillation stages. I guess it might depend on how vigorously the water was boiled. Of course, triple distilling would also help remove organic chemical contaminates. However, the condenser (in home distillers) is usually stainless steel, and this is in contact with the hot output steam, and condensing distilled water, where it can dissolve some nickel, if nickel is part of the condenser alloy. Lab distillers use an expensive (and fragile) glass condenser unit which eliminates this potential 'dissolving of metals' problem. I have a hunch that ultra- trace levels (homeopathic doses) of ionic nickel may be highly toxic to some people, depending upon their 'total toxic load', 'total allergen load', immune activation, immune sensitization (to nickel), etc. The best distillers are 'all glass'. --Bill -- The silver-list is a moderated forum for discussion of colloidal silver.
