Hi all, Just so everyone understands, the request for contributions you got from Reid is one that I have approved of. He and Jim Einert are getting set up to be our resident microscopists and are going to be of great value to the whole program.
When I took on the list-owner job in January, I sent Eskimo North the princely sum of $60 to set up the account. Enough people felt the need to contribute 5 or 10 bucks that most of it was taken care of for me. I didn't ask for it, they made me take it! Thank you, every one of you who sent me something. It wasn't a big deal, but it felt really good to know you value the list that much. I'd like to see Jim and Reid set up without them having to fund the whole thing out of pocket. I sent Jim a small check a while back. I'll probably send him or Reid another one soon. These guys will be looking at biological samples for us, as well as CS. So maybe it's time to run a Jim and Reid Microscopy pledge fund? I'm good for another $20. Set a goal, you guys, and let's see if we can get you there. Jim, please hook up the Snappy to your camera and computer and shoot me a couple of pictures of any old CS you have around. E-mail them to me and I'll put them up on the web site. I don't want to make pledge drives a perpetual feature of the list, and I *never* want it to become burdensome to participate. Requests like this should always get cleared through me, please. But Jim's camera and video capture hookup was the first thing we tried to fund back in February. The recent success with the Microbial Challenge Test fund may have showed us how to do it right.
