The particals comming off the silver rods is an ionic charge. Glass by
nature is an ionic negative. You can see this by rubbing a glass rod with
wool and picking up chunks of paper which is a positive charge. So you
have positive ions comming off the silver rods that will stick to the
glass which is a negative. This will cause a build up and soon a short
between the silver rods. Try it some time with the rods touching the
glass and check your PPM.
