Larry,

In addition to the other questions you're following up, let's ask 
about your technique...

Electrode spacing and wetted length? You do *not* add salt or any 
other substance to "speed things up"? Do you periodically wipe off 
the feathery deposits that form on the negative electrode? Or do you 
by some chance stir them in? (OOPS!) 

How are you heating your water? Does it boil during the process? (If 
so that would mean you're probably stirring in the sludge the rest of 
us are wiping off of the negative electrode.)

When does the stuff turn grey, during the run or at some time after? 
Does visible stuff settle out on the bottom of the container after 
several hours or days?

Just trying to narrow down the possibilities. Good luck!
