Hi V,
Due to email problems and traveling I just read your reply to my post. I
do not agree that an extra 20 lbs is not so bad. That is a lot of extra
fat that puts a load on the heart just to push the blood through the
additional capillaries that supply that fatty tissue.
There is also the extra stress on joints, like hips and knees.

Hi Janet...my daughter is now 47 and just begining the perimenopause...I
am 66 and about 4 years into full menopause.
We have such different body types...she has her fathers genes in
abundance for sure.
She has about 10 pounds that wont go away and I think that has
something to do with nature and balancing the Estrogen Levels ...as they
begin to dwindle...the extra weight holds some Estrogen and that is
probably helpful to the heart.
I would like to see more women happy with the fullness of their crone
year figures.
I love the "Dove" commercials...all women all sizes.
Women are begining to accept that curves are a good thing:)
After 50...unless one is a really tiny person...the body will probably
hold onto an extra 20 pounds or so...and that is not so bad.
Strangely enough people still think that we put weight on because of
large amounts of calories.
Not many people eat the way hugely obese people do...they have a
sickness...it begins in the brain...and without major help...they are
doomed to their prisons of flesh.
I spent most of my life hungry...as a child because there was very
little food to be had and then after the birth of my first child at
18..my husband insisted that I "diet" to regain my prebirth weight.
I did...and I destroyed my metabolism.
In the 60's doctors were handing out the Rainbows like candy and thats
what I did...amphetamines.
So , in effect, I have "dieted" my way into obesity.
It is only in the past 4 years or so that I am trying to regulate my
weight by eating properly.
If I could add exercise...simple daily walks to the agenda...I think I
would have the weight problem licked...but my knees and ankles are not
able to do the job so I am twisting and turning to find ways to get back
to a healthier weight.
I will keep trying till I do it or till I die. This time it is for
me..not for the approval of my family.
What I am saying is...be happy with yourself.
We talked about food combining and types of diets etc here.
Someone mentioned the book "Eat Right 4 Your Type"..a great place to start.
Someone who is type O would do well to look into the Hellers books on
Carbohydrate Addiction...and of course...buying Organically whenever
possible...lots of fresh garlic...virgin olive oil...raw almonds...those
kinds of things will help to make a healthier you.(and Me)
Have you read any of Dr. Christiane Northrups books?
Her book on Menopause is excellent...every woman should have it.
The ball is really in our court as most doctors know next to nothing
about the way a womans body works...so we have to figure it out for
ourselves. V.

There is some thought that during perimenopause, which can last more
than ten years, yikes! The body puts on fat to depot the hormones we
are
producing allowing for a slow release. After menopause, supposedly, it
is much easier to take off the weight. I am just waiting to be period
free for a year, its been a few months with much fluctuating for over
five years. Hopefully the weight will come off easily as it used to in
my younger years. I am 53.
