Just wondering what type of liver troubles you have. I just got a report that I have a lesion on my liver. I have to have further testing. I have had liver pain for years. Do you think that advil is as harmful as tylenol? I dont know whether to take tylenol or advil for pain when i have it. I think advil is hard on kidneys and tylenol on the liver. I have problems with both so pain meds are a challange for me.

Hi Zeb,
I have no idea. All I know is I have liver blood values that are 1 number away from being out of the normal range. Since I know how "normal ranges" are set, this is of a bit of concern to me, and that the one doctor said I should never take Tylenol. I had severe mono at 17, which can damage the liver...........at least the doctors at the time told my mother I was at very high risk of liver damage. My sympathies, I have great trouble with pain meds also. Advil just tears up my stomach, so does generic Ibuprofen. I can take limited amounts of aspirin, if I dissolve them in a glass of water and take it that way. In the past year and a half I have had very good luck with Piroxicam but now it hurts my stomach too, so I take it for a couple days when I have bad pain, then stop. One thing about it is it seems to have a good "carry over" and I stay at a very low pain level for days after stopping. Probably that means it is not good for the liver either. I take it with a lot of water, and in the middle of or immediately after my biggest meal of the day. Plus now I often take my magnesium and calcium with it. Nice thing about it is it is a once a day dose. A couple of days of taking it every week or two helps a lot, and keeps me functioning fairly well.
