tincture has denatured alcohol holding the iodine, and that's poisonous.
fine to paint it on your skin though.
sodium or potassium iodide is fine to ingest (in small amounts of course).
as i recall the iodine added to table salt is usually potassium iodide.
lugol's has water, not alcohol, and can be ingested (again in small amounts
of course) or painted on the skin.
too much iodine is indeed poisonous ... but so is too little!
