It is a digestive enzyme that digests proteins and amino acids. However for a spider bite, which is a digestive enzyme that digests proteins and amino acids as well, it seems that using papayan (which is from the papaya plant, not a pineapple) would be like adding fuel to a fire. I would personally be afraid to try it for a spider bite, it seems to me it would hurt, not help.
