No I'm not sure, it was 15+ years ago I looked that up.
It could be weeks, and under certain conditions...like if it's cold out?
At any rate, it was an amazingly long time.
2 years without eating....pretty sure I recall that right.

"Tick life cycle" on google should turn something up.

20 minutes under Methanol? We timed it over and over.
Don't know if all ticks are the same.

Supposedly, they can't take fast air pressure changes, nor can fleas or their eggs.
 But dogs and cats can.

Ode, " two months without breathing " .? Are you sure ? here in
Spain we suffocate them by covering them in butter , vaseline or any
similar substance- works a treat and worth a try ! Richard

I'll try the alcohol thing next time I get a tick. I get several

Doubtful, but worth a try.
Here's why.
Back in the forestry days on an herbicide contract in Alabama,
we'd come out of the woods covered with ticks and scrape them off
into a cup of the herbicide. [VelPar]
The carrier was pure Methanol.
Those ticks would walk around under the Methanol for 20 minutes.
Amazing little buggers.

A tick can live for months without breathing.
Up to two years without eating.
I think maybe the Methanol sucked the water out of them.

Maybe Isopropyl is different somehow.
I doubt it'll smother em, but maybe it'll piss em off.
The "off" part is the good part. I know a hundred other ways to
kill em. [Like Kerosene Lamp racing ]

The all time easiest and best way to remove a tick is to soak a
small cotton ball with plain old rubbing alcohol and place it over
the tick. This smothers the tick and the tick lets go
immediately. Then just lift the tick off and drop it in a jar or
container containing some kind of oil, or something to kill the
tick. This is a fast easy way to clean an animal of ticks. Easy.

Thanks again.
