Yes, it turns out to be an important skill- one of the ones I refused
to learn as a feminist- having my brothers threaten to make me type all
of their papers had quite a bit to do with it too- like I needed MORE
stuff to do for them besides all their housecleaning. I am glad I
learned how to cook, though, as that has come in really handy since I
enjoy eating well. It is funny how things turn out- I was a feminist,
became a geologist and then ended up being a stay at home mom with my
boys (didn't have energy to work also with my heath issues). I guess it
goes to show that we never know how the future will turn out....

so, were there any boys in your class?
**** Not as I recall. And as you said, everyone was in training for
their *careers* -- girls who weren't headed for college were
encouraged to develop office skills for their brief time in the
workplace before getting married and raising a family. I was headed
for college, but thought that typing skills would be a good thing to
have. Turned out I needed them as I *tried college* and didn't like
it. Got married alright, but never did the family thing -- worked my
entire adult life, and used those typing skills both professionally
and personally. It's a skill that I think everyone should have --
especially as the world has evolved into computer use. MA
