Yes it will gather garbage, for a while.
I've collected water at .9 uS after a half hour of heavy rain time, off a
galvanized steel roof, which, aside from an asphalt roof, is probably one
of the worst ways to collect rain water.
If not decent distilled itself, it's at least pretty good source water for
a distiller.
Might want to run it through a charcoal filter to get any nonconductive
volatiles, bird poop? and left over particulates.
Drive 4 stakes into the ground and suspend a clean sheet of plastic from
the stakes, cut a hole in the center of the droop and put a catch jar there
after it's been raining a while.
On a large scale 30 x 40 foot tarp and upended 300 gallon drum covered with
screen wire to keep the skeeters out and hose spigot at the bottom, it can
be enough water to live on and water a small garden...and have a shady spot
to boot. [did that for several years ]

Believe it or not it can actually collect a lot of garbage on its way
down, depending on where you are - in some cases it may not be nearly as
pure as you might think - drinkable, yes, but definitely not as pure as
distilled (mineralized and ozonated).
