They are not the same. The process used is different to make it. Distilled is made by boiling, and condensing the steam. Deionized is made buy filtering. You could take a glass of deionized water and add sugar to it, and it would still be deionized. But if you do it to distilled water it will not longer be distilled.

So then, Marshall, does "deionized" water have any minerals in it? I would think that "de-ionized" water is water in which minerals in all forms have been removed.
