Does anyone know if HIPS (high density polystyrene) out gases VOC's? It

HIPS is made by adding a catalyst to the styrene monomer. The catalyst it typically completely used up, but there can be traces of the monomer that never polymerize, and will over time outgas. Styrene is pretty nasty stuff.

Same questions about Saniprene? the clear
plastic used in refridgerator bins?
Not familiar with that plastic. Is that a brand of a standard plastic?

I am concerned about the VOCs and
also about toxins leaching by contact into the food. My unit died and need
another one I might not react to.
