That's because your generator is making a predominantly ionic product 
and the tyndal effect only reveals the particulate component. So the 
tyndal effect can be very faint and may require a darkened room and the 
intensity of the laser pointer to reveal it.

Faith: I have a couple of laser pointers and they are indeed very 
bright. You simply do not point them at anyone's face or look into the 
beam. If you get a glint of the light off a reflective surface just 
look away and/or move the beam. It will not instantly blind you or 
cause any damage at all unless you go out of your way to be foolish 
with it.

It's worth realizing that any risk associated with a laser pointer is 
one that's entirely under your control. I think you can be trusted to 
use one safely!
