L-Lysine works well with herpes virus. Shingles is one of the herpes viruses. It works quickly and well and I have no side effects from it. I keep it in my kitties water as a litter was born with herpes (a rescue litter--my kitties are fixed). If I forget for a week or so their eyes become runny. I use it when I get a cold sore or mouth ulceration. Try about 2000mg daily and see if it helps. It is very inexpensive.
