I really don't know where the need for distilled water comes from when
we can have today cheaper and high quality RO.
Well, RO isn't cheaper everywhere. An RO system for my house would cost
me around $200, and the cost of yearly replacement filters would also be
about $200. Whereas, my distiller cost about $100 and it has served me
well for nearly 5 years with no extra costs, except for the electricity
to run it, which is about 25 cents per gallon of distilled. Distilling
to pure enough for CS making (here) costs about 75 cents. Cheaper than
an RO system by MILES.
Commercial bottled RO water is not available for purchase here. AND
there is no recycling of plastic water jugs here.
