Often it is just to you that your email goes to (they figure you are not going to filter out your own email address).
I have the same thing happening. I have a filter set up (different colour) so I can easily notice any mail coming from my email address (the group emails are easy to spot so looking at the others makes it easy to delete these off the mail server) I have MailWasher (a program that downloads only the subject, IF there is an attachement or not the size of the file and who it is from and who it is going to). Though some stupid spams have NO email address and no subject but then they stand out a lot and are easy to delete. The other are easy to black list and they then show up in read and are deleted before they are downloaded as well. I also subscribe to known spammers list (First Alert) to make my job even easier to doing my own mail filtering. Got fed up having my yahoo email group mail bounce all the time because of their filtering system (Bitch and Stud and being on dog breeding groups made this happen a LOT in their filtering systems) at first I had to fight with my providers saying they could not turn off their filtering systems, but they did once the knew I was not going to stay if they kept it on. When I had dial-up and before I got MailWasher it would take a couple of hours to filter all the mail and have Norton insist on having permission to delete all the viruses, and I still had to deal with the spam AND the long time it took to download all this stuff AND friends that sent huge files!!! The MailWasher made life a lot easier and sped up the time I had in downloading mail.
