One person was 12 years old when he was diagnosed . Generally, people with colitis must stay away from dairy, sugar and caffeneine. I personally would take slippery elm(an herb that you can get in the health food store in powder form or the powder in capsules)which is healing to all mucous membranes, sores and ulcerated surfaces.
