Diane, Don't worry about the FDA protecting its corporate masters by limiting what can be sold through the corporate retail market. I wouldn't buy any OTC silver product anyway, would you? How could you know what's in it? (You can't.) But I can assure you no gov't can possibly prevent anyone from making their own for their own consumption. Just don't ever sell it or even give it away to non-family. Give only information, or sell generators, kits, parts, etc. if you like.
Sam dl> Hi dl> I found this and I think it's awful that they could do this. dl> Diane dl> -------------------------- dl> FDA Goes After Colloidal dl> Silver In Over-the-Counter Drugs dl> 8-20-99 dl> http://foxnews.com/health/081999/silver.sml dl> NEW YORK - Over-the-counter drug products that contain colloidal silver dl> or silver salts have not been shown to be safe or effective, announced dl> the dl> US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday. dl> The FDA also said that the general public cannot use these types of dl> drugs dl> safely because adequate directions for the products could not be dl> written. dl> Products containing silver particles have been appearing in stores in dl> recent dl> years, note FDA officials. Labels on these products include claims that dl> the dl> products can treat adults and children for diseases including AIDS, dl> cancer, dl> tuberculosis, malaria, lupus, syphilis, scarlet fever, shingles, herpes, dl> pneumonia, dl> typhoid, and tetanus. dl> But FDA officials write that such products are misbranded ''when their dl> labeling dl> falsely suggests that there is substantial scientific evidence that the dl> drugs are dl> safe and effective for their intended use.'' dl> According to the FDA Final Rule issued Tuesday, ``a colloidal silver dl> product dl> for any drug use will first have to be approved by the FDA under the new dl> drug dl> application procedures.'' dl> Use of colloidal silver solutions, where silver particles are suspended dl> in a dl> gelatinous base, can result in argyria, ``a permanent blue-gray dl> discoloration dl> of the skin and deep tissues,'' notes the FDA. dl> The products in question include colloidal silver ingredients and silver dl> salts dl> such as silver proteins, mild silver protein, strong silver protein, dl> silver chloride, dl> and silver iodide. The drugs are usually in oral dosage form, but dl> sometimes dl> exist in topical (to be applied to the skin) and even intravenous forms. -- The silver-list is a moderated forum for discussion of colloidal silver.
