Well, doing nothing gets nothing done...
How much does your distilled water cost?
How many gallons or liters does it take to equal the price of a
distiller?
If any distiller gives you more than that, then you're ahead.
Proper maintenance lengthens the life of the device.
That means using white vinegar once in awhile to clear hard water
deposits.
I think your procrastination is costing you.
