Garnet,
 
Was the  diatomaceous earth color brown or white?  Do you know the source of 
their DE? Was it farm raised, and come from shells?

I found Food Grade DE at our local organic gardening supplier.

It was cheap for a large bag, 25 or 50 lbs, I can't remember but
it was only $25. This was two years ago.
