Hold on! I use DE for a DE filter for my tropical fish. It's white. Its from 
ancient one cell crustations. There for the shells are very tiney. So when you 
fiilter through it, the liquid gets really pure. The tanks looks crystal clear! 
The earth is white and very cheep, So spend your money wisely!  Larry

It was white food grade. I don't know the source.
