Marshall, I have never read anywhere that LED lights have fluorescence gases in them.
The phosphor is not a gas but a solid chemical. On a fluorescent bulb it is the white powder on the inside of the bulb except for UV lamps (which technically are NOT fluorescent). It converts the UV light given off by the mercury arc to visible light of the wavelengths desired.
In fact everyone has been recommending switching to LED lights because they don't have the same composition as fluorescent lights, and they last much longer than even the fluorescent bulbs.
They last virtually forever. Also they contain no mercury, the UV light is generated by the band gap of the gallium arsenide diode, then converted to visible white light by the phosphors applied to the chip. In other words, although the method of generating the UV light is completely different between the two, the white light is generated by exactly the same way, a fluorescent compound is used to convert the uv to other wavelengths.
And the few epileptic folks that have written about them don't seem to have the problem with LED lights that they do with fluorescent lights. *Shrug* It wouldn't hurt to try one and see how it goes.
It is simply a matter of whether they filter the current going to the LED or not after running through the rectiffier. I do not know if they put a filter cap in there or not.

I don't believe LED would help. The two possible triggers for fluorescent bulbs are the 60 htz blinking, and the color spectrum. If you are talking about white LED bulbs, they are fluorescent as well, and will blink at the same rate and have the same spectrum if they use the same fluorescent compound, which I believe they do.

Hey Steve, check into LED bulbs, C Crane has them, but I think you can find 'em cheaper.

They give out decent light these days.
