Most cases of heartburn are caused by too LITTLE stomach acid, not too
much. Supplements of hydrochloric acid taken at meals are usually of great
benefit in relieving it and improving digestion in general. Most of the
time the burning sensation is caused by fermentation, not by a surplus of
stomach acid. Usually people produce less stomach acid with age. Digestive
enzymes taken with meals also help.
