I have a Canadian Maple Leaf which I got a couple years ago and have carried as 
a good luck piece ever since.  I thought three nine volt batteries was the 
recommended.

Not sure. . .I've been using 4 nines (36v) and brew
for 3 or 4 hours.     Works for me.
Someone on the list may clarify this better than I.
