I've heard that too, but I don't believe it. Depending on where you are, the water you get can contain all kinds of different "minerals", including chlorine, fluoride, and other not-so-desirable things. If your health depended on what the local town delivers in your drinking water, then we'd all be in trouble.
Personally I drink either reverse osmosis or distilled water, or bottled water on occasion. But I also take vitamin and mineral supplements, so I know what I'm getting, and what I'm not getting.
