Hey, I'm getting mail from "The Man" without being reigned in for "loose
affect". I must have cleaned up my act too much.

Hi Mike and listers,

Thanks Mike,.for the suggestion.

I did a few hasty and not-well-documented trials seeding with already-made
sol. Without calculating, I felt that I would need to use so much as
starter that I would loose the production benefit. I do intend to try
again, because making the below described solution is time consuming. More
tests may change that perception.

At present, I am still trying a solution of CACO3 at about 58.1 PPM to
bring up conductivity. Interestingly, it took about 6 months for the
limestone to go that far into solution in distilled water. That is a great
mystery to me. Presently I am adding 10 mL/1/2 gal. There is a batch
running now. At 150 minutes, start water distilled to 0.2 PPM, 10 mL 58.1
PPM CACO3 added, start temp 80 F, I went off my chart which is set up for a
20:1 dilution for the Hach reagent set. Eyeballing the line above the top
horizontal tick on the chart, I estimated 14 PPM.

I would question my test procedure, but every time I send Bruce or Bob B. a
sample, their procedure matches up closely with my mg/L results.

Let me offset my problems with a success story.

Next to the plumbing shop---in the geographical center of the city (Yes,
this is Santa Fe)---my friend and neighbor George Rougmont raises and
trains horses.

His grey stud nicked his hock (the joint like our ankle) and got septic
arthritis. After spending about 3K with the vets and on antibiotics and
getting only a horse with a massive case of the runs and a badly swollen
hock, I gave him a half gallon of 7 PPM. The horse improved immediately,
did not get the runs, and over a couple of weeks the swelling is almost all
gone. Joints are not well perfuse with blood. I don't know the dosage
plan, but I think George interpolated by weight from about 4 oz/day of 10
PPM for a 175 lb human. He has been spraying on their day-to-day cuts
too, with great success. The vet's advice included, "Keep him off his
feet". Richard asked, "How the hell do you keep a horse off his feet?".

I wonder, James, whether the "low yield problem" is amenable to a
solution used by us LVDC freaks? Why not seed your batch with 5 to
10% of your previously made CS? It would hopefully swamp any effects
of differences in starting resitivity.

Just a thought.

Be well, my esteemed friend,

Mike
