Wifi, bettern know as Wireless LAN, enables a computer to connect with the internet without plugging in an ethernet cable. So you can, for example, take your laptop to a Panera Bread and sit there drinking coffee and sending email over the internet. Same thing in a hotel or in your own home if you buy one of those little wifi routers and hook it to your internet connection. Your laptop can then connect to the internet without wires.
