I put 3/4 cup CS in a bottle with 3/4 cup witch hazel, add a few drops of
DMSO and one or two teaspoons of glycerine. If you don't like glycerine use
castor oil. Shake well. At the first sign of any discomfort, use a little
of this on cotton or soft paper wipes (keep in contact with the painful
area) and you have the equivalent of the best over-the-counter products for
treating and preventing hemorroids. Gel packs can also help (the kind that
are sold in drugstores). As far as prevention is concerned, making sure you
get enough fiber in your diet is probably the best advice as is getting
enough exercise--walking every day--because you don't want to be
constipated--and of course you want to drink enough water. Consider limiting
your intake of inflammatory foods as well.

In the eastern traditions, they advise contracting the sphincter or the
reproductive organs for a few minutes every day. This can help us age
gracefully--especially if we are no longer sexually active--and it prevents
incontinence.

Be well.
