I consider cholesterol paramedics of our system. Getting rid of them is NOT the answer. There is a problem in the system and it is the problem that needs to be fixed not our bodies attempt to heal the problem.
Most often it is high insulin levels that damage the walls of arteries and then the cholesterol tries to patch it up. So lowering carbs especially high glycemic index ones lessens the damage done to the walls so less cholesterol is formed by the liver (eating cholesterols is not the reason our cholesterol in the circulation system is high, but the amount of sugar/white flower etc that is eaten). I consider Statin type drugs terrible as they not only cause the problems stated in the link but also increases the odds of a heart attack.
