Janine; I always use plastic containers and have never had a problem. The only plastic that I would use is the type found in Cola bottles or the clear drinking water bottles.
If you are using any of those then review your process. You might be going to long for type of DW that you have. That is why I harp on using a current meter to ge an initial reading and then knowing when to shut it off. There ar less than $20.00 mail order and then you will know what you are making.
