When you mentioned inexpensive, DMSO came to mind immediately. DMSO
is cheap and has been used quite effectively on burns, breaks, scars,
sprains etc. There is a book, DMSO:Nature's Healer" by Dr. Morton
Walker (from Amazon), that you will find useful. DMSO is not to be
used on open wounds, only AROUND the open wound, but it relieves pain,
swelling, edema and is antibactirial, anti-fungal etc. It transports
anything into the tissues when applied topically so you have to be
sure your hands and the skin is free of soap, creams etc. There are
few side effects, mainly itching, bumps etc. at the application site
but this only lasts for a few minutes or hours and is very dependent
on the where it is applied. 'Tender' skin, especially above the
waist, is more sensitive (such as behind the knees, neck, face etc).
Also.. it is only to be reduced with distilled water and only mixed up
in small batches in glass containers only. I love little shot glasses
for this.

You just have to be respectful of it's attributes and educate
yourself. DMSO absolutely speeds healing of sprains, strokes, burns
etc. but you might want to use the DMSO after initial healing is
accomplished to lessen subsequent scaring. However, it can be taken
orally.. 1/2 - 1 tsp with 6 - 8 ozs water and it will have good
results. I would only trust these two places for DMSO for drinking
the product. apricotsfromgod.com has a pharmaceutical grade (pricey)
and dmso.bz.com. You will find tons of cheap DMSO online but you
can't be sure of their purity. I trust these two places. Do your due
diligence and your homework. Congratulations to you and your wife. I
am so happy everything seems to be resolving for you. :) Lola
